International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
For almost three weeks now, I've been reviewing for the IELTS.
Week One covered one of the most difficult areas for review and that's Reading. The trainer for the first module was Jon. A diagnostic test of three reading passages was given to us on the first day of week one. If you think that reading is easy, well, you can think again! There were some tricky questions, tricky statements and equally tricky multiple choice/s. Gladly, I made it through the first week, after reading 3 to 4 passages and answering the subsequent 40 questions every day.
Week Two was another difficult area for review. This time around, it was Writing with Cynthia, the trainer. Each day we were given two tough writing tasks. Writing task one should be done within 20 minutes. This usually involved writing based on given illustrations like pie graphs, bar graphs, charts and experiment procedures. Writing task two must be finished within 40 minutes and the topics usually range from social issues, human interest, education, etc. Again...tough!
For Week Three, it's Listening. As Johann (another trainer) said, "Listening is fast, fearless and fun". Everyday, we get a varied dose of accents which are either American, British or colloquial English. The listening drills also vary in difficulty. An important thing to remember about listening is to relax so that you'll be able to listen and understand what's on the recording.
Speaking will be the next topic for Week Four of the IELTS review.
After that, two days of exam will follow.
